History
The Apple Watch was first released in 2015, and it rapidly became the year's best-selling wearable device, with 4.2 million units sold in Q2 2015. Apple dubbed the first Apple Watch "Series 0" when it released the Apple Watch Series 2 later that year, along with an improved chip dubbed "Series 1" and a whole new "Series 2" Watch.
Many things changed when Apple released the Apple Watch Series 3 in 2017. Although it was available in aluminum, stainless steel, and ceramic variants, the corporation began to regard the Watch as a fitness device rather than a fashion accessory. This Watch included a processor that was 70% quicker than its predecessor, more RAM, and the addition of LTE cellular connectivity with 16GB of storage.
The Apple Watch Series 4, which debuted a year later, featured a dramatic makeover, including a 30 percent larger screen in both versions and a 50 percent faster CPU than the Series 3 model. Series 4 added the fall detection feature, ECG capabilities, and the second-generation heart rate monitor, as well as rearranging the speakers and microphones to make them louder and more helpful.
The Apple Watch Series 5 was released in 2019, and it featured an Always-On display with an energy-saving LTOP OLED screen, a built-in compass, quadrupled storage to 32GB, and brought back the Edition tier with a ceramic model and a fresh new titanium edition.
Apple will release the Apple Watch Series 6 in 2020. Along with new health sensors, this Watch had a new S6 processor that was up to 20% faster than its predecessor, a brighter Always-On display, a blood oxygen app, and an always-on altimeter.
Apple released the Apple Watch Series 7 in 2021, with a more durable and larger display, measuring 41mm and 45mm respectively. It's now more crack-resistant than prior models and can charge faster. It uses the same processor as the Series 6 and comes in the same three finishes as the Series 6: aluminum, stainless steel, and titanium.
Apple Watch Series 7: Specs and features
More durable and larger display
Despite reports to the contrary, the new Apple Watch Series 7 does not have a new design. It does, however, offer a larger display with 20% more screen area and thinner margins at 1.7mm, which are 40% smaller than the Apple Watch Series 6's.
This new Apple Watch comes in two sizes: 41mm and 45mm. The Always-On Retina display is 70% brighter indoors than the last Watch when the wrist is down, making it easier to see the watch face without having to elevate the wrist or wake the display.
The front crystal on the Apple Watch Series 7 has been rebuilt with a stronger and more robust shape that is over 50% thicker than the one on the Apple Watch Series 6, making it more crack-resistant.
The Watch is also dust-resistant and has a water resistance rating of WR50, making it an excellent choice for swimming and keeping users relaxed when on the beach or in the desert.
Sensors
The Apple Watch Series 7 features the same sensors as the Apple Watch Series 6, including a third-generation optical heart sensor, haptic feedback Digital Crown, a built-in compass, an always-on altimeter, and a second-generation speaker and mic. You can instantly call for help and alert your emergency contacts via Emergency SOS and International emergency calling.
If your Apple Watch Series 7 detects a heavy fall, it will automatically contact emergency services on your behalf. When decibel levels reach levels that could harm your hearing, the Noise app will notify you.
Performance
The Apple Watch Series 7 uses the same CPU as the Apple Watch Series 6 from last year. Despite the fact that it has a new moniker, the S7, it has the same CPU power. This isn't the first time Apple has done something similar. The S5 chip in the Apple Watch Series 5 had the same performance as the S4 SoC but also had a Compass feature.
The S7 SiP is equipped with a 64-bit dual-core processor and 32GB of storage. It's 20 percent faster than the Apple Watch SE's processor because it's based on the S6 chip.
