With a massive 12.9-inch screen, the first-generation iPad Pro was released in November of 2015. Apple announced a smaller version with a 9.7-inch display in March of 2016. With this iPad, Apple also unveiled the first-generation Apple Pencil and Smart Keyboard.

The Apple Pencil was a key accessory to this iPad since it rejects the user’s palm while in use and is designed for low latency to enable smooth marking on the screen. The Smart Keyboard makes it easier for the user to take notes and work anywhere with the iPad.

The first-generation iPad Pro runs Apple's latest software, iPadOS 14, as of April 2021.

The A10X Fusion processor and up to 512GB of storage were included in the second edition, which was released in June 2017. A 10.5-inch variant was introduced to replace the 9.7-inch device.

Apple released the third-generation iPad Pro in October 2018, marking the tablet's most significant upgrade to date. The 12.9-inch model grew smaller as a result of the bezel-less design, while Apple replaced the 10.5-inch model with the first-generation 11-inch iPad Pro.

Face ID was added to the iPad, allowing it to be unlocked in any orientation. This was also the company's first mobile product to include a USB-C port. Apple also unveiled the second-generation Apple Pencil, which now charges when attached to the iPad's side, as well as a new Smart Keyboard Folio that protects the iPad when closed.

Apple released the fourth-generation 12.9-inch iPad Pro and the second-generation 11-inch iPad Pro in March 2020. These iPads were the first to include a new camera module as well as a LiDAR Scanner.

Apple announced the fifth-generation iPad Pro in April 2021, with the M1 chip, Thunderbolt connector, 5G compatibility, and mini-LED display technology in a 12.9-inch form.

The 12.9-inch iPad Pro (5th generation) and the 11-inch iPad Pro are available now from Apple (third generation). Both models include the M1 chip, which is up to 50% quicker than the previous model's A12Z Bionic, as well as 5G compatibility, a Thunderbolt connector, and up to 2TB of storage.

For the first time, Apple claims that devices with more than 1TB of storage have 16GB of RAM, while those with less than 1TB have 8GB.

The iPad Pro has a revamped camera module with 12MP Wide Len, 10MP Ultra Wide Len, and a LiDAR Scanner, which is utilized for AR applications and helps to improve focus while recording films or taking photos.

The TrueDepth camera now boasts a 12MP Ultra Wide Lens and the "Center Stage" feature, which keeps the user in the center of a video chat at all times.

This iPad comes in Silver and Space Gray and can surf the web for up to 10 hours on Wi-Fi or nine hours on a cellular data network.

The Magic Keyboard, which has a trackpad, backlit keys, a hinge to alter the viewing angle, and a USB-C connector for pass-through charging, is compatible with the fifth-generation Pro model. It comes in two colors: white and black. This model also includes a second-generation Apple Pencil that charges while connected to the iPad. iPadOS 15 is installed on the iPad Pro. The operating system, which was previewed during the WWDC21 keynote, features a revamped Home Screen with widgets and App Library support.

In the productivity sector, Apple didn't include all of the tools that pro users needed to get the most out of their new M1 iPad Pro, even though it will be possible to create apps using Swift Playgrounds later this year, as you can learn more about it here.

On the top of the screen, there's a new multitasking menu. When you click there, you may view what Split View settings are available or just move to Slide Over with a tap.

With all-new keyboard shortcuts and a redesigned menu bar, using an external keyboard allows users to get more done.

Users can use the Apple Pencil to add a brief note with the Quick Note function. Simply slide the pencil through the bottom right corner of the screen to the middle of the screen and begin writing.

iPadOS 15 is already available, as is version 15.0.1. Here's where you can learn more about it. Apple will release SharePlay for the iPad in a future update, allowing users to share their screen, listen to Apple Music songs together, or watch Apple TV+, HBO Max, Disney+, and other apps while on the phone.

iPadOS 15.1

One month after releasing iPadOS 15, Apple released iPadOS 15.1 More notable, the company finally brought SharePlay support for the iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV. Unfortunately, Universal Control wasn’t one of the features added with this new version. Here’s what else is new:

  • Mandarin Chinese (Taiwan) support in the Translate app and for system-wide translation

  • New automation triggers based on the current reading of a HomeKit-enabled humidity, air quality, or light level sensor

  • New pre-built actions let you overlay text on images or gifs, plus a new collection of games lets you pass the time with Siri

iPadOS 15.2

Five weeks after releasing iPadOS 15.1, Apple is releasing iPadOS 15.2. It brings more features that were expected to launch alongside iPadOS 15 but, unfortunately, Universal Control is still nowhere to be seen. Here are the top features of this version:

  • Apple Music Voice Plan is a new subscription tier that gives you access to all songs, playlists, and stations in Apple Music using Siri

  • App Privacy Report in Settings lets you see how often apps have accessed your location, photos, camera, microphone, contacts and more during the last seven days, as well as their network activity

  • Communication safety setting gives parents the ability to enable warnings for children when they receive or send photos that contain nudity

  • Digital Legacy allows you to designate people as Legacy Contacts so they can access your iCloud account and personal information in the event of your death

  • Apple TV app: Store tab lets you browse, buy, and rent movies and TV Shows all in one place

Apple has updated widgets for the Home Screen in iPad OS 14, as well as included a new enhanced sidebar, compact calls, and Scribble. You won't have to put Apple Pencil aside to accomplish other things if you use this feature. You can write by hand in any text field on iPadOS, and your words will be converted to text immediately.

Pinned conversations, group photographs, and inline replies were received in messages. People can now be mentioned in iMessage, giving your Memoji a more customized look.

In April, Apple released iPadOS 14.5, with some major changes in the iPadOS 14 cycle:

  • App Tracking Transparency: iPadOS 14.5 includes the new App Tracking Transparency feature. This requires that applications ask permission from users before tracking them across other apps and websites. For example, when you open the Facebook app, you’ll see a prompt that says the app would like to track you across other apps and services. There will be two options from which to choose: “Ask App Not to Track” or “Allow.”

  • Siri: There is a new Siri intelligence feature that helps the virtual assistant adapt to your preferring music application. Apple also added two additional Siri voice options from which to choose. The company has said that these changes are part of its ongoing commitment to diversity.

  • Emoji: iPadOS 14.5 adds over 200 new emojis.

  • Podcasts: Podcasts Show Pages are redesigned to make it easier to start listening to a podcast. Option to save and download episodes, automatically adding them to your library for quick access. Top Charts and popular categories in Search help discover new shows.

  • Horizontal boot screen on the iPad

  • Updates to the Music app, including swipe gestures, a lyrics sharing feature, and more.

Although iPadOS 15 is available, users can stay with iPadOS 14.8 with important security patches and bug fixes.

Rumors

There are already reports concerning the next generation of Apple's M1 iPad Pro, which was released less than a year ago.

Apple has been investing in more miniLED display suppliers, according to Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, because the company wants to use the technology in more devices starting with the forthcoming 11-inch iPad Pro model.

According to Kuo's report, the 2022 iPad Pro would most likely have the same screen sizes as the current generation, which are 11 and 12.9 inches. According to a Bloomberg report from June, Apple is working on a redesigned iPad Pro with a glass back, although it's unclear whether the new design will be released in 2022. In his Power On newsletter, Mark Gurman also stated that the business is looking into larger-screen iPad models, although Kuo feels that we shouldn't expect this next year.

Mark Gurman's Power On email in December 2021 gave Apple users a taste of what to expect from the new iPad Pro:

He claims that Apple is working on a new iPad Pro design with wireless charging capabilities, as well as improvements to the iPad Air and entry-level iPad.
