What is the iPhone 13 called?
This year, the iPhone is continuing its increment upwards in terms of naming, with the iPhone 12 being succeeded by the iPhone 13.
iPhone 13 design and size
The 2021 iPhone lineup is largely comparable in appearance to the current iPhone 12, although it is somewhat bigger and heavier to accommodate larger batteries. The notch has also been decreased by 20% in terms of width.
Despite reports that demand for the iPhone 12 mini was lower than projected, Apple has announced that the form factor would be retained for another year, with the iPhone 13 mini.

Display
OLED displays are found on the iPhone 13 small, iPhone 13, iPhone 13 Pro, and iPhone 13 Pro Max. The Pro versions, on the other hand, feature a major distinction this year: a new ProMotion display technology.
The iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max have an adjustable refresh rate display, which allows it to range from 10Hz to 120Hz depending on what you're doing.
Smaller Notch
What about the notch, at the end of the day? Every year, the notch and Face ID cutout are expected to shrink, and with this year's iPhone 13 lineup, it has finally happened...sort of.
Because Apple has moved the earpiece speaker to the top bezel, the iPhone 13 series has a notch that is about 20% smaller in terms of width, but is really significantly taller. Regardless, the iPhone 13 will have a slimmer overall appearance thanks to the whole notch reduction.
Camera Upgrades
Apple says that the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini include a “massive leap in camera design” with a new Wide camera that gathers 47% more light for less noise and brighter images. Apple has also added sensor-shift optical image stabilization to the iPhone 13 Pro, iPhone 13, and iPhone 13 mini, a feature that was previously exclusive to the iPhone 12 Pro Max.
Apple says that this “stabilizes the sensor instead of the lens so shots are more steady, while the custom-designed Ultra-Wide camera with a new sensor captures images with more detail in the dark areas of photos and videos with less noise.”
The iPhone 13 also comes with a new Cinematic mode that records movies of people, pets, and objects with a depth effect and auto focus changes. Portrait mode, which has been accessible for still photographs, is identical to this. In the Photos app and iMovie, users may alter the intensity of bokeh and change the focus during and after capture, according to Apple.
Photographic Styles, which Apple defines as "customized preferences and filters that automatically apply the necessary adjustments to different portions of the shot to ensure the vital features, such as skin tones, are kept," are also being introduced.
The iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max come with a number of unique features. Both models have an Ultra-Wide camera with a 92 percent improvement in low-light performance, an f/1.8 aperture, autofocus, and a 6-element lens. The Wide camera has an f/1.5 aperture and can boost low-light performance by up to 2.2x. Finally, for the first time, the telephoto camera features a new 3x optical zoom sensor.
Other camera features include:
Macro photography – Users can capture sharp, stunning images where objects appear larger than life, magnifying subjects with a minimum focus distance of 2 centimeters
Smart HDR 4
ProRes video recording
Night mode for all three cameras
A15 Bionic processor
The iPhone 13 lineup is powered by Apple’s newest A15 Bionic processor, but more details on performance improvements compared to the iPhone 12 are unclear as of now.
Connectivity
While there were reports that Apple was looking into low-earth-orbit satellite communication technology for the iPhone 13, this did not happen. Rumors also suggested that mmWave 5G support will be extended to countries other than the United States, but this did not happen.
Storage options
For the iPhone 13 mini and iPhone 13, Apple has doubled the base storage configuration from 64GB to 128GB. This means the iPhone 13 is available in 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB configurations.
The iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max are available in storage configurations of 128GB, 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB options.
Larger batteries
Due to 5G adoption and other modifications, the iPhone 12's battery life has suffered. Apple claims that the iPhone 13 has a significantly longer battery life than the iPhone 12.
Inside the iPhone 13, Apple is said to have used novel space-saving designs such as merging the SIM card slot with the mainboard, lowering the thickness of the front optical modules, and more. This makes room for larger batteries on the inside.
