Inspired by Afrofuturism, a philosophy that explores the black experience through science, technology, and self-development stories, Apple is launching a special edition of the Apple Watch Black Unity Braided Solo Loop and its corresponding Unity Lights watch face. As part of this launch, Apple is supporting organizations focused on promoting the inclusion of science and technology for the color community through racial justice and justice initiatives. The Apple Watch Black Unity Braided Solo Loop and its corresponding Unity Lights Watchface were designed by members and allies of Apple's Black Creative Community to celebrate the history and culture of blacks and to celebrate the black generation of the African diaspora. The bright red and green colors of the Pan-African flag look like mottled light throughout the black band. Complementing the band is a Unity Lights dial designed using 2D ray tracing. This is a technology that has never been implemented on dials. Each pixel on the screen simulates the light and shadow that hits it, and the movement of the hands of the clock simultaneously shows and hides the dynamically changing light throughout the day. The Unity Lights watch face can be customized as a full screen or circular watch face and includes black and white options, tick marks, and up to 4 complications. iPhone, iPad, and Mac users can also show their support for Black History Month by downloading Afrofuturism-inspired wallpapers available at apple.com.
